Chapter 1: Xanthus

Name: Xanthus
Race: Human With Pure Mage Blood
Age: 14
Height: 5' 1-0''
Weight: 100 lbs.
Class: Mage/Water Master
Class abilities: Teleporting, Control Over Water
Feats: Tidal Waves, Hard Water Blasts, Summing Ice Snakes
Armor: Hard water
Weapons: Ancient Water Staff

                                       Xanthus
                               The water mage

"Wake up son, its time for squire training", Xanthus' dad said.

"But why dad, I want to be a mage, not a knight",  Xanthus replied.

"No, for the last time you are NOT becoming a mage. Mages are cowards who hide behind everyone else to cast their spells. Also you need to have been born with mage blood to be one".

"But how do we know I don't have any? I've never been tested for it".

"The answer is NO, now get ready for training".

Xanthus was 14 years old, and all his life all he ever wanted to be was a mage. He was sure he had what it took but
everyone made him go to squire training so he could be a knight in a few years. His mom, dad and brother who was a knight, kept telling him to "go do squire training and never think about being a mage ever again". They also said that "being a mage is for cowards who don't face their opponent head on". But he disagreed. He thought that it took a lot
of skill and hard work to be a mage, and he wanted to ascend to the highest rank of the mages and fight in the battlefield as a mage. Then one day, it all changed.

"Quick, Xanthus, get inside!", his brother yelled as he pushed him inside their hut. The village was under attack
by barbarians and they were united under the leadership of a berserker who went by the name of "Kun". As his brother pushed him into the hut, the barbarian leader Kun cut off his brothers head, and started towards Xanthus. All of a sudden, without thinking or with any thought in it, Xanthus let out a almighty yell and as ancient runes glowed blue and red over his body, a unstoppable tidal wave of water came out of him, sent Kun flying backwards and blasted the hut to pieces. Running towards Kun, he cast his hands out and a solid jet of hard water came out, smashing his sword and went up Kun's nose, drowning him. As the barbarians saw that their leader Kun was dead, they ran for the hills with the townsfolk
on their heels. When the news of the attack reached the lord of the castle, he sent his highest mages over to see Xanthus immediately. Taking him back to the mages tower, they found that he had pure blood of the first water mage, Poseidon. Realizing that he might fulfill the prophecy that said "My staff shall raise to the blood purest", they told him of the prophecy.

After saying goodbye to his mother and father, he set off on a quest to find the staff. After traveling and searching for a month, he was resting by the sea. There was a cave right by the sea, and he heard this voice calling out to him.
"Xanthus, Xanthus, Xanthus", repeating his name over and over again.
Heading into the cave with his sword ready, he slew a few drowned zombies. As he was walking along, the cave started to flood and it flooded quickly. Before he could get out, the cave was fully flooded and he thought he was going to die. When he ran out of air and took a breath of what he thought was going to be water, it turned out to be air. Taking another breath, he realized he could breathe underwater. Swimming down to the end of the cave, it turned out to be a dead end.
Just as he was about to turn away, the wall of the cave opened open and sucked him into it. Turning around, he realized the water couldn't enter the new cave for some unknown reason. Turning back around, he saw a water staff floating in a
sphere of water. Walking forward, he reached out and took it. It was light to the touch, about head height and crooked at the end like a shepherds staff.
Inside that crook was a small ball of water constantly  turning around. Spinning it around him, his runes on his arms glowed a brilliant blue and the staff shot out a hard aqua jet stream of water toward the wall, destroying it and letting the sea rush in. Swimming out of the cave, he found himself face to face with Poseidon.
"So you found my staff, did you?", asked Poseidon.
"Your Poseidon?", inquired Xanthus.
"Well of course, I am. Follow me and I will train you in how to use that staff". Swimming down to the bottom of the ocean, a beautiful palace came into view, made out of different kinds of coral. As a few months went by, Xanthus become better and better at using the staff. He now could teleport, summon meteors and call ice snakes that he could control to his aid. In addition if he was near the sea, he could cause tidal waves and manipulate the water to his control.

Finally, he left the palace and went back to his home town. Finding it ransacked and destroyed, he found out that a rival kingdom had raided and burnt his village and the castle.

Once he found out who had done it, he went to their castle and requested a audience with their king, Nick Rottman. When they brought him into the throne room, his anger got the best of him and as his whole body glowed with the power of Poseidon, he unleashed bursts of water on the guards, killing them instantly. As Nick cowered on his throne, he cast his hand out and putting a sphere of water around his head, watched as he couldn't breathe and drowned. Marching out of the castle and killing any guards who stood in his way, he summoned a massive tidal wave and destroyed the whole
castle. Traveling the land, he now seeks justice and vengeance to those who do wrong....

How I survived

There was a spider in my doorway.
     A giant one.
A deadly hunter one.
     A poisonous one.
The main spider.
     The queen bee spider.
And she was in my doorway.
She was very big and scary.
At that moment, I knew my life was over.
I turned around and I saw her evil minions, the ants,
blocking my exit out and looking menacing with their claws.
I turn the other way and I see the most deadly of her minions.... dust specks....

I turned around and jumped over the railing and ran for my life, just BARELY outpacing all of the queen bee spider and her minions.

They still have my shoes that they got as I was running for my life.

Let Your Light Shine

The Battle at the Beginning of Time

The angels with yellow wings are God's angels, either fighting the evil angels or are flying up to heaven.

The angels with green wings are the angels of satan; some of their wings are being removed as they are sent to hell (the red pit at the bottom).

The Person in the middle of the candle is God.

The angel all in yellow? He is St. Michael the Archangel.

The evil angel with the yellow dot (lower left corner) is Lucifer (satan, the devil).

Mama got bit by the Lego bug!

A few months back, Legoboy picked up a Sorry game from Once Upon A Child - lego-style (not official legos, but they are compatible). Well, the game was a dud.

Not to mention the thing I call a Giant Lego Tick that can move another's piece across the board.

Well, I think the Giant Lego Tick bit me.

Because I saw THIS at the Lego Store - and fell in love:
TREE BEARD!!!!!
Just over 9 inches tall.
Yeah, I want the Tower of Orthanc set now - just for him!

While waiting to save up money for it (Legoboy's job), it's just been niggling at me --- a friend recently gifted us some discretionary money for Legos and I thought, "Why wait?"  So we picked up a few small things today - all on sale - BONUS! The rest is going towards the Tower of Orthanc set.

He got an eagle to assemble and a Chima keychain - and a small bucket from the Wall of Bricks (discounted because we re-used our tub).

Oh, and it's double VIP points this month too. So he can save up even faster! (normally 1 point for every dollar spent; $5 gift card when 100 points are reached).

Me? I had fun ;) This is what I get for having a Lego-maniac for a child ;)
FRODO!
I'd've picked up Tree Beard if they had him in stock.
Our Lady is connected with Frodo... read the books and note the dates!
Springtime scene!
(perfect fun for the half-price!)
Summer was not available; Fall and Thanksgiving are too much $ full-price.

Too Much Time on Our Hands

Or not enough time for proper mental release over the course two very busy weeks - and this is the result:

building the Tower of Orthanc

Still building

showing one of the pieces he wants to use
(note the vacuum in the background -
he put that together too)

It crashed.

SIGH. Can't get him to just SMILE.

Re-built.
But refuses to just SMILE.

Yep. That's a smile. Sigh.

Almost there!

Tree Beard - in 2 dimension.

Dangerous Book for Boys - 7 Wonders of the Ancient World

Playing with the paint.net program - after spending a long time in the corner studying up on the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. He chose not to do the Colossus of Rhodes because he was running out of time. ;)

Fire inside the Lighthouse of Alexandria

Inspired by a browser-based history game we play
and The Dangerous Book for Boys section on
the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World.

This book is not what it sounds like!
It's dangerous because it leads boys to goodness ;)

Kids Workshops at Home Depot

Ok, so this post won't be so much about creativity - but more about just the building fun.

Home Depot has a Kids Workshop the first Saturday of every month - every Home Depot has it. The employees are always really friendly; it's kid-friendly without being all cartoony and ga-ga about stuff. Just down to earth wood with hammer and nails - and pound away! ;)

The kids show up anytime between 9 and noon - they are given a kit, lent a pair of goggles, wood glue and hammer - and they go at it.

While this one goes at it, anyway! I hold the far edge to help with the pounding. He reads the instructions and follows them to a T - all by himself (I'm the chaperone!).

The really cool part? Did you ever want to wear one of those bright orange apron without the commitment of actually having to show up at Home Depot for an actual job???? Oh come on - you know it crossed your mind!

Well.... the children all get their own apron! When they complete the project, they also receive a pin with an image of that project - to collect on their way cool ORANGE aprons!

I'm not personally super-excited about "picture frames" for the December project, and I was ok with the fireboat in November. I am personally excited about November's spice rack, though - so practical - so many uses (we've put everything in it for testing purposes, EXCEPT spices!) - and it's something for which I can cut the pieces to his own measurements and he can make in as many different ways and quantities as he likes!

It's COLD outside!

So bundle up in one of these:

This scarf was created a year ago, but new ones are available now exclusively at Garden of Francis. He's been so anxious to get them posted so he can start selling them online, but his mother had other things on her mind... At long last, they are posted and available - and he is eager to get to work. Please keep him busy during this holiday shopping season - PLEASE! ;)

I have a serious back-log of blog entries to get posted for him - and my own work to do!

All proceeds from sale of these scarves goes to additional art supplies and to the upcoming sponsorship of a child in a third-world country.
